Barbara Ashworth

I retired in March 2012, having spent many years working in the voluntary sector, latterly as Business Development Manager at Stubbylee Community Greenhouses. Prior to that, I worked for Citizens Advice Bureau for over 20 years in Heywood, then Rossendale. I had a particular interest in Debt and Welfare Benefits and led on Social Policy work in both Bureaux.

In May 2012 I was elected to represent Greensclough Ward in Bacup. I served on Licensing Committee (3 years) and Development Control (3years – last 2 as Chair). I have been a member of the Capita Operations and Governance Board since election and am currently Chair.

I have served on several Task and Finish workgroups, reviewing Welfare Reform, Green Vale Homes and Rogue Landlords. I have been Older People’s Champion since election.

I am currently a member of the Cabinet and hold the Portfolio for Health and Customer Services. I chair the Rossendale Health and Wellbeing Partnership and represent Rossendale on the East Lancs Health and Wellbeing Partnership and the LCC Health Scrutiny Committee.

I am a member of the Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) Board and chair the Physical Works sub group. I represent RBC on the Dementia Friendly Rossendale Steering Group.

Outside of Council responsibilities and activities, I have chaired Seniors Together in Rossendale (the over 50’s Forum) since its inception in 2011. I represent them on the Lancs 50+ Assembly. I am a Trustee of Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale CVS. I am a member of Bacup Pride, Bacup Consortium Trust and the Irwell Medical Practice Patient Group.
