Labour’s Police & Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw, has been at the forefront of the fight against the government’s cuts to policing and also in opposition to a change to the way that the government allocates the share of funding to all forces.
Lancashire Constabulary faced the bleak prospect of losing a further £24.5million in changes to the funding formula, as well as up to £30 million in annual funding cuts.
At a time when police are under huge pressure this would have put all of our communities at risk and threaten the safety of our families.
The huge outcry that ensued, and the magnificent support of the people of Lancashire, MPs, unions, Labour councillors and the Save Lancs Police campaign put David Cameron under huge pressure and saw a massive climb down on both issues.
PCC Clive Grunshaw said:
“The Conservative’s used to think of themselves as the party of law and order but now they seem to be the party of cuts and incompetence. Lancashire is recognised one of the best performing and most efficient police forces in the country and they use this as an excuse to punish us. Thankfully the people of Lancashire made them think again!”
